Abstract

The reduction observed in the number of marriages in the Region of Murcia in the last twenty-five years has accompanied an increase of civil marriages. The recent development in the procces of liberalization and secularization in the murcian society has brought about a fall in the proportion of the marriages celebrated by the catholic rite, it is produced in a moment in which the narriages celebrated in other rites is increasing because of the rise in the foreign inmigration that is being generated in Murcia in the las years, and that has provoked the entrance in our territory of different population, depending on their cultural level, their social insertion, numeric importance and characterization of the marriages generated in the Region of Murcia depending on the way they are celebrated; as well as the distribution that they present in the territory.
