Abstract

This article is an approach to the diplomatic connections of the Franco’s system of government with Hungary during the Second World War. We must point out the part played by the Spanish diplomatics in the Jews rescuing. Another question is based on the negotiations of the Spanish government in order to let a group of 700 Jews leave Budapest to go to the north zone of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco, and avoid their deportation to the German concentration camps. Both the Spanish consular authorities and the diplomatic agents accredited in Budapest, took very laudable steps to obtain the 700 visas for the said Jews. In addition to that, it must be borne in mind the part played by the communal council of the Jewish community in Tangier before the high Spanish Commissary in Morocco in favour of those Jews. We enclose the full names, number of children and origin of the 700 Jews who obtained the autorization for leaving Hungary for Tangier.
