Abstract

Madoz’s confiscation, coinciding in time with the Two-Year Progressive Period, would affect several goods which belonged to the municipality, the state, the church and some military orders (Saint John of Jerusalem and Saint James)in the northwest region in Murcia. Those goods included land properties and real estate properties as well as others of different kinds: mills, snow pitches, roads and watering hours. In the researched period, from 1855 to 1882, the sale of most part of the goods confiscated would affect a total of 390 hectares of different kinds and origin. The process involved the confiscation and later auction of an amount of more than 34.000 hectares, most of them being mountainuos land properties. This amount is divided the following way: 82,29% Caravaca de la Cruz, 10,22% Calasparra, 6,72% Moratalla, 0,65% Cehegin and only 0,08 Bullas. In relation to real estate properties, Caravaca had a ranking position with 49,45 followed by Moratalla (32,96%).
