Abstract

The formation of the Swiss Confederation is been of a process begun in 1291 and concluded in 1815 by twenty-two cantons; from those dates the frontiers of the country remain invariable. After a period of internal fights and a brief civil war (Sonderbund) the Constitution of 1848 was promulgated, that increased in great measure the federal power. It continued him the Constitution of 1874 that established the bases of the modern State and that, with modifications, it still remains in vigor.
