Abstract

The old Monarchy of Spain and their American continental Empire crumble during the first decades of the XIX century. With this process diverse republics arise in America and a new Kingdom type in the old metropolis that establish their political principles in the constitutional liberalism and in new territorial forms, consequence of the great rupture with the past. But the elites of both sides of the Ocean will limit the development of this liberalism in each nation by reason of their local interests and of their necessity of continuity in the power.
