Abstract

The provintial division carried out by J. de Burgos in 1833, as regards the historical region of Murcia, was the culmination of a reductionist process that started some years earlier. The author studies the territorial limits established for the new region (provinces of Murcia and Albacete) and the changes experimented by those limits after 1833. The most remarkable ones consist of the transference of the province of Albacete to Castilla-La Mancha, whereas the one of Murcia was converted into provintial region (1982). All this within the framework of the Spain of the autonomies introduced with the Constitution of 1978.
