Abstract

The 25th anniversary of 1978’s Spanish Constitution has given cause for multiple celebrations and positive stocks, but also for discussions and claims for deepening or reforming some of its contents. As it happened during the period previous to its making and its approval, the territorial question has become the main issue of the political debates concerning the modification of the Constitutional Law. This paper reviews, from a geographical perspective, the origins of the Spanish territorial system (the so-called «State of Autonomies»), its recent history and some of its main current conflicts and challenges, as well as its consequences and possibilities on the evolution of Spanish Geography.
