Abstract

In 1723 the cardinal Luis Belluga and Tomás José de Montes, his successor in the diocese of Cartagena, agreed that they would divide the incomes of that prelacy into two halves. Such contribution was especially very necessary for the restauration of the western side of the cathedral of Murcia, which was completely destroyed after the eathquakes and floods of 1733-1736. This paper touches upon bishop Montes’ legal Memorial in defense of his thesis as well as Belluga’s refutation.
