Abstract

Under the relatively happy authorized history of the Restoration of 1875 there were, politically, serious problems and failures. Mainly in the first years of the reign of King Alfonso XII. Intrigues by the former Queen Isabel II, both badly known and exremely unfortunate, did tarnish Spain’s image in Europe an even the legitimity of the very monarchy that had been restored. An untold and failed project for the marriage of the Pricess of the Asturias, devised by Canovas to promote his ambitious foreign policy. Very serious misgivins of the Spanish Prime Minister on the two marriages of King Alfonso XII, especially on the first one. These are a few of the novelties unveiled by the long research work resumed in this article.
