Abstract

The perception of Maghreb in Spain, that is to say, of our southern neighbours, has been conditioned for centuries by the cartography, its progress and evolution. In fact, until well into the XIXthcentury, and, above all, after 1900, in which a direct knowledge about those countries becomes widespread and relations with them become established (Morocco and Algeria in particular), the perception on the Maghrebien world was strongly influenced by the cartography in the Spanish popular imagery.
