Abstract

The feminization of foreign immigration in the Region is a phenomenon which has occurred later than in the rest of the country as a result of the origin of what, up to the fi rst few years of the 21st century, was the largest group in Murcia: the Maghrebi. Since then the arrival of migrants from Latin America has risen sharply and the imbalance between the sexes has levelled off to the point where, in 2007, womwn now account for 41,3%. The aim of this article is to analyze the characteristics of a group which remains little known, despite the important role played by women as the agents of social integration.
