Inclusive and non-sexist language

Anales de Derecho recommends that published articles use inclusive and non-sexist language that promotes gender equality in science, as advocated by the European Research Area (ERA) agenda (2022–2024 period, with Action No. 5: "Promoting gender equality and fostering inclusion").

Our journal acknowledges that not all texts can easily adapt certain linguistic structures to meet the requirements of gender-inclusive language. We are also aware that promoting equality goes far beyond purely morphological aspects. Nevertheless, we adhere to the principles stated in the Guide to Non-Sexist Language in Spanish (UAM, 2019), which asserts that language provides sufficient resources and mechanisms to express ideas clearly. As stated in the guide, "those who produce a message can choose among different forms of expression to communicate in an inclusive and non-sexist way, making language a tool for change" (p. 9).

For further information, we recommend reading the APA guidelines on inclusive writing.

Our journal believes that a small effort in writing academic articles can contribute to a significant societal advancement. Scientific communication cannot remain detached from the societal changes that shape and sustain it.
