ANALYSIS OF THE USE OF DRONES IN ARMED CONFLICT FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW
Abstract
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are currently instruments with multiple uses, both private and public, many of which have yet to be explored. Among their applications, their incorporation in the field of warfare is particularly noteworthy.
It is precisely the growth in the use of drones in armed conflicts that has driven this work, as well as the fact that, although it is a phenomenon that is booming and growing exponentially, it lacks clear regulations today. This legal vacuum is currently a matter of full importance, insofar as the indiscriminate and unjustified use of these vehicles could lead to a violation of the rules of Public International Law on the use of force, as well as, International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law.
This paper therefore addresses the main legal implications of drones in armed conflicts. This report will attempt to analyse the existing regulatory framework to date, and its capacity to respond to the multiple scenarios that arise. Emphasis will also be placed on the positive and negative effects at the legal, political, and economic levels that their use generates for countries and their populations.
