Gender Equality and Non-Sexist Language
Good Practice Policy on Gender Equality Issues
Trenden Journal is committed to promoting equality between men and women, giving visibility to women's scientific work and promoting the use of inclusive language in scientific publications through the following actions (among others):
- Maintaining a balance in the percentage of women and men who make up the journal's editorial team.
- A minimum of 40% of authors and reviewers of articles submitted to the journal must be women.
- Request for the use of inclusive language in scientific articles in order to recognize diversity, show respect for all people, take differences into account and promote equal opportunities.
- In order to identify potential differences, it is necessary to report whether the source data for the research takes gender into account.
- The full names of the authors of the works published in the journal are included in order to highlight their expertise in research. Please include the full names of the authors in the bibliographic references, following the APA's recommendations for inclusive writing (https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/bias-free-language).
Inclusive and Non-Sexist Language
Trenden Journal recommends that published articles use inclusive and non-sexist language that promotes gender equality in science, as promoted by the European Research Area (ERA) agenda for 2022-2024, with action no. 5: “Promote gender equality and foster inclusiveness.”
In our journal, we understand that not all texts are equally viable for adapting certain linguistic formulas to the requirements of gender-neutral language. We are also aware that promoting equality goes far beyond purely morphological aspects. However, we assume that language has sufficient resources and mechanisms to express what we want to say, so that the producer of the message can choose between different forms of expression in an inclusive and non-sexist way, so that language becomes an instrument for change.
It is recommended that you read the APA's recommendations for inclusive writing: https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/bias-free-language
In our journal, we believe that a small effort when writing articles will ultimately represent a major step forward for society. Scientific communication cannot remain on the sidelines of the changes taking place in the society that sustains it.
