Efecto del pranayama frente al ejercicio aeróbico sobre los parámetros hematológicos en mujeres con anemia ferropénica

Resumen

Un creciente cuerpo de evidencia muestra que las personas con anemia por deficiencia de hierro presentan déficits en algunos de sus parámetros hematológicos, los cuales pueden estar asociados con un aumento de la fatiga, afectando su calidad de vida. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo diferenciar la eficacia del pranayama y del ejercicio aeróbico sobre los parámetros hematológicos en mujeres con anemia por deficiencia de hierro. Sesenta pacientes con edades comprendidas entre 30 y 40 años fueron seleccionadas del servicio ambulatorio del Hospital Universitario October 6 y se dividieron aleatoriamente en dos grupos. El grupo de estudio (I) (n = 30) participó durante 12 semanas en tratamiento farmacológico para la anemia, recomendaciones dietéticas y 50 minutos de práctica de yoga, distribuidos en 15 minutos de asanas, 30 minutos de pranayama y 5 minutos de meditación, seis veces por semana. El grupo control (II) (n = 30) participó durante 12 semanas en tratamiento médico para la anemia, asesoramiento dietético y sesiones de ejercicio aeróbico en cinta rodante, seis veces por semana. Todas las participantes fueron evaluadas mediante un analizador hematológico, la prueba de caminata de seis minutos y la escala de gravedad de la fatiga antes y después del programa de tratamiento. En ambos grupos se observaron mejoras estadísticamente significativas en todas las variables evaluadas, excepto en los linfocitos (p < 0,05), con un mayor porcentaje de mejora a favor del grupo I. El pranayama es más eficaz que el ejercicio aeróbico para mejorar los parámetros hematológicos en mujeres con anemia por deficiencia de hierro.
