The articulations of the democratic experience (around chapter iv of los pocos y los mejores)

Abstract

In this article we will address the problems that José Luis Moreno Pestaña raises in the last chapter of Los pocos y los mejores, in which, first of all, he explains how the democratic experience can be articulated based on the combination of knowledge, motivation and morality and in what sense the different combinations possible through the use of democratic tools such as sortition and electoral processes can be virtuous or not, including the criticism of epistocratic approaches. Next, the material problems that cause the exclusion of broad social sectors (workers and women) from democratic political participation as a consequence of the organization of productive and care work are addressed, and possible solutions are outlined. Finally, the need to insist on a theory of democracy like the one proposed by Moreno Pestaña in a socialist key without fetishistic political or economic features is concluded.
