Abstract

In his contribution to the Handbook of Political Economy, of which he was the coordinator, Max Weber did not intend to deal with sociological theory. He was forced or led to do so because between 1912 and 1913 several authors who were to participate in the handbook had left, so he took on the task of giving the book as a whole a broad sociological discussion. That is, to connect society with the economy by relating different forms of community to economically relevant phenomena. This article traces the path towards sociology that Weber's contribution to the Fundamentals of Social Economy, which will be published as Economy and Society, will follow, from the first sections on the social conditions of the economy to the fundamental sociological concepts.
