Abstract

In this paper we aim to show the kind of works of art that Capetian Kings used in their private life during the first half of the 13 th century. This is possible due to the revision of documental sources and to the works that have been conserved. We have analysed the royal accounts year by year and we have classified them by their typology. In that way, we can identify the sort of motivations that laid behind these artistic promotions: practical, decorative, devotional, didactic, moralizing and recreational. In most of examples we notice that queen Blanche of Castile was in charge of these commitments. In addition we can appreciate their material, their economic value and the destiny of some of them.
