Abstract

The object of this paper is to introduce one of the most interesting aspects of the Bort brothers who where intimately connected with Murcia. Jaime Bol-t. the builder of the wester facade of the Cathedral in Murcia. was called to the Court in 1749 because of his experience in hidraulics, in order to entrust him with the consrtuction of the Puente Verde (Green Bridge) over the river Manzanares and the Trofa Bridge over one of the tributaries that flow omto this river. This fact (Bort's work at the Court) is part of a known chapter of his biography. but the greatest accuaracy, confirm the prestige that the master designer of the facade of rhe Cathedral in Murcia enjoyed at his time. Bort's work of a remarkable importance for the European baroque (if centered only in his work in Murcia) was that extended and confirms once more the Valencian master's exceptional activity as regards hydraulic works at the Court. where he had been introduced by powerful protectors. The presence of his brother Vicente and the possible connections between the St. Ferdinand sculpture at the Green Bridge and that of his namesake on the Murcian imafronte allow as may be to observe the beginning of a process of assigning the, ornamental constructions of the Murcian imafornte.
