Abstract

In the southeast of the Region of Murcia an urban area is configuring. It is inhabited for almost a million inhabitants, near the regional population’s 70% in little more than 20% of the territory. Their basic urban centers are Murcia and Cartagena. It is not only an axis but a polycentric area, complex and varied. On a rural territory, of «huerta» in a part, now forms of diffuse urbanization are superimposed, with numerous resort of tourist purpose and of leisure. Their functional integration is growing and complex. It means the area of bigger economic and functional importance of the Region and with a weight highlighted in Spain. Of there the importance that deserves. Their potentials and weaknesses are analyzed as well as their model of territorial organization.
