Abstract

Red paleosols horizons use to appear related to several Pleistocene levels of mediaterranean glacis and fluvial tenaces. Their presence, despite of the controversy concerning their genesis and interpretation, mostly is the end result of relations between sedimentary dinamics and geomorphic environment in which they were developped. Therefore represent a indicator of Quaternary climatic fluctuations. On this matter, this paper presents a study of fluvial terraces belonging to the high plain of Yecla (Southeast Iberian Peninsula). Sedimentological and mineralogical data are related to a regional paleoclimatic background in order to establish a frame of environmental conditions which caused their genesis. Finally is presented a Middle Paleolithic lithic industry overlaying some of these terraces.
