Abstract

This study analyses current problems in the Spanish dairy industry. In spite of being one of the biggest industries in the food and agriculture sector in Spain, with a tumover of nearly one billion pesetas in 1996, it is undergoing a severe crisis as a result of its lack of organised structure from point of production to commercialisation. Heavy debts, industrial small-leve1 producers, subsidies from various authorities and the aggressive participation of multinational capital are some of the structural features that this sector presents.
