Abstract
The growth of the portuguese towns and the unbalanced urban system is dealt with in this article. The disproportion of their demography and their situation on the west side increase the spatial disorder. There is a clear hegemony of the Lisbon, and in a lesser extent, of Porto upon the rest of the hierarchy.
