ALLUVIAL TERRACES IN THE RAMBLA DEL PORTÚS (SOUTHERN COASTAL STRIP IN THE PROVINCE OF MURCIA)
Abstract
In the southern coastal watercourses of the province of Murcia, alluvial terraces represent a rare type of deposit due to the fact that at different time during the Holocene Epoch the torrential overlandflow exerted an important erosive action on these watercourses, which are characterized by a marked slope and a notably changing morphology. A good example of al1 this is the Ranibla del Portús, whose levels of terrace appear very reduced nowadays, due not only to the very lateral erosion of the stream, but also to the intense explotation of arids that has taken place in recent years. However, there are still some remnants mainly in the inferior medium section, sector of Escarihuelas, where it has been possible to discover as many as 3 levels. In this paper, the rnorphological and sedirnentary characteristics of the above rnentioned levels are described, together with the rnorphornetric and rnineralogic analysis of their constitutive elernents. This has allowed us to establish sorne rnorphogenetic and paleoenvironmental differences among them.Downloads
