Abstract

One of the most frequent landforms to be found in the Cartagena area is the glacis: Pliocene erosional glacis, now found in residual form, partly fossilized by basic lava trains in the sectors Cabezo Negro and Llanura de La Unión; slope glacis formed by the coalescence of alluvial fans, the remains of which are found near the Rambla de Corvera and Los Campillos (South of the Carrascoy Mts); and accurnulation glacis developed by laminar surface flow (upper Plio-Pleistocene level preserved in areas such as Los Canovas-Truyols-Sucina and La Pinilla. as well as lower, more recent levels). This paper details not only a description of the different types of glacis, but also the geornorphological characteristics of the calcic crusts associated with some of the glacis surfaces, the role of the Quaternary climatic crises in their morphological evolution, and an account of their morphogenetic reconstruction.
