Abstract

The purpose of this investigations is neotectonic which conceniraies on the southern area in the fertile lowland of the Segura nver valley (23 kms2). Our methodology is multivarious, pointing towards a better understanding of the recent tectonic activity in southern Spain. Our rnethods and techniques cover indirect techniques: aerial photography (at different scales and different periods of time). hydrochemistry (over 70 analyses). seismicity (from the end of last century) and vertical electric fathomings (64 S.E.V. of AB = 1.000): and direct methods: geomorphology (alluvial terraces and abandoned windings). mechanical soundings (over 50) and structural cuttings in the ground. Archaeology has contributed in a great extent to clarify the existente of neotectonics in this alluvial terraces and its dating.
