REDUCCIÓN DE LA BIOMASA DEL PINO CARRASCO (PINUS HALEPENSIS) EN UN ÁREA DEL SURESTE SEMIÁRIDO PENINSULAR COMO ESTRATEGIA PARA EVITAR EL ESTRÉS HÍDRICO
Abstract
In the periods of strong droughts the Mediterranean vegetation suffers a situation of water long stress which forces the vegetation to adopt diverse survival strategies, figuring as last resource, and before to get to exceed its resilience capacity, reduction of the leaves´ biomass. In this work some specimens of Pinus halepensis existing in the study area (the experimental field of El Ardal, Murcia) are shown, the above-ground biomass was valuably reduced in response to the drought, which was revealed in an important increase of litter production. The litter production relates besides to the rainfall registered in the study period, with the soil moisture, which is a key parameter in the vegetation survival in dry environments.Downloads
