Abstract

The rainy stormy episode that took place on September 28, 2012 reached record over 150 mm in just two hours, resulting in flooding of the rivers of Goñar, Vilerda, Nogalte, Béjar, Torrecilla, Viznaga, Nogantes-Charcones-Canalejas and even river-ravine Guadalentín. This natural phenomenon driven by the combination of an Isolated Depression at High Levels (IDHL) with the warmer waters of the western Mediterranean in later summer time, has caused serious damage to the southeast peninsula among them the eight people death in the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.
