Social, economic and environmental sustainability in water treatment for agricultural use and nature preservation: the Campotéjar Lakes (Murcia)
Abstract
In the Murcia Region, close to old wastewater treatment urban plants by impoundment system, modern plants with high technology in debugging are built while the former impoundment ponds become deposits of purified water for agricultural use.
Some of these ponds, such as the Campotéjar ones, are naturalized and become wildlife refuges for threatened species in the European and worldwide context. Therefore this is considered a sustainable model that reconciles the wastewater purification and the later agricultural use with nature conservation.
