Geography of perception: an epistelogical revision
Abstract
Since 1960, many studies have been made on Kevin Lynch’s conception of the urban subjective space. Many of them have criticized the «Geography of the Perception» because its epistemology is considered quite weak. There has been a paradigm shift from Psychology in the sixties to Sociology a decade later. This has resulted in the two most commonly used techniques to compare the objective and subjective spatial perceptions: mental maps and polls. However, this article contends that the object of study can be neither the perception itself nor the opinion, but it must be only geographical, that is the subjective space.Downloads
