Flood risk perception on coastal municipalities of Alicante: Is the vulnerability increasing?

Abstract

During last two decades, coastal areas of Alicante have recorded a high increase of the vulnerability to flood phenomena. It is as consequence of the increase in the physical exposure to the same ones, caused by the sprawl of new urban-tourist residential areas. In this paper, social perception of flood risk it is analyzed, considering variables of resistance and resilience to confront this natural hazard. It is offered results of perception surveys carried out in permanent and seasonal populations affected by floods on coastal municipalities of Alicante.
