Urban community initiative and the unfinished construction of an urban policy for the European Union
Abstract
The URBAN Community Initiative has worked for two programming periods of Structural Funds (1994-1999 and 2000-2006). It was the first EU programme specifically dedicated to the regeneration of deprivated neighbourhoods. Moreover its local impact, the URBAN has served as a pilot experience for urban regeneration theory and practice. His strategy for action is focused in the integrated approach of urban dynamics. Also pay particular attention to socio-economic issues. For both question URBAN has become an interesting model for the EU and, specially, for those Member States with less experience in urban regeneration policies. The programme has also became an interesting experience from the point of view of the construction of an EU urban policy.Downloads
