UNIVERSITY LECTURERS: STRESS AT WORK AS A HEALTH RISK FACTOR.
Abstract
The aim is to assess the quality of professional life by evaluating the level of stress as a possible health risk factor and job satisfaction in order to ascertain wellness and health in a sample of university lecturers. Descriptive, cross-sectional study, performed at the University of Lleida during the year 2002. The total population comprised 667 lecturers of whom 51 accepted to participate in our study. We collected personal information and employment situation. We also assessed the level of job satisfaction, work-related stress/burnout (MBI) and health status. The participants showed moderate to intermediate burnout syndrome. In women and in lecturers at first stages of their career, the level of burnout was higher. We also found a moderate level of insatisfaction and a slight apathy, being more pronounced in the interpersonal relationships. All this was related to a poorer health status perception.Downloads
