Abstract

The present study deals with a experience report on the implantation and implementation of the participatory management occurred after the change in the head of the nursing school of Enfermagem Alfredo Pinto (EEAP) in the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro-UNIRIO on May 2005. Therefore, the new head started from the management model found, Institution managed by a few people, with unreliable practices, implementing an emerging model, an institution managed by few people, with access to the rules of law to execute their strategies in traditional context in order to reach the proposed model, in other words, an institution with shared control, through a participatory management, in search of aspirations and teaching capacity to compete globally. In this sense, partnerships with teachers, administrative technical personnel and students were created in order to begin with the strategic planning and to promote a monitoring of the nursing management actions was executed, seeking justness, transparency, responsibility for results, and the execution of legal demands. In order to attain such objectives, four Committees were constituted to advise the head of EEAP, being the actions which defined according their specialty: the Administrative Committee, the Academic Committee, the Executive board, and the Family Committee EEAP. In this scenery the head of EEAP acts as a process facilitator, analyzing and making possible the actions and procedures proposed by the Committees. The expected results for the change in the proposed model contain: the professionalization of the management practices; larger efficiency in the socket of decisions working in team within a competitive and complex global context; larger relationship with the Academic Community and body regulators; larger attention to teachers, students, and technicians - administrative interests. In order to reach the goals proposed for Unit and Identity in EEAP, the foundations were based on: maintaining the public and free teaching; rigidity in management transport with competence, transparency and ethics; making possible academic excellence; respecting diversity and pluralism; struggling on behalf of the social recognition; looking for partnerships for the development of projects of EEAP; reducing traditional isolation; strengthening alliances with class entities; contributing to social inclusion, and promoting communication and marketing. So far, the performance of the four Committees has already started, the head office curricular of the course is being evaluated, reverse-adapting and optimizing the physical and organizational structure, improving the student attendance, and looking for partnerships with other IES in Brazil and in the exterior.
