Abstract

In practice, nursing plays an important role in the management of needle electrodes in the electromyography (EMG) lab, particularly in the sterilization and storage. Special attention should be taken with the manipulation of the electrodes, washing hands and using materials in good condition. All these aspects reverberate in the service quality and improve the patient’s care. The main aim of this report is to explain the processes of the use of electrode needles on patients, as well as to describe the precautions, regulations, and care that should be taken with electrodes needles to obtain the best results in the EMG lab. It is important for nurses as well as medical and technical personnel, before using one of the electrodes and its accessories, to wash their hands. To complete actions that avoid mistakes because of the incorrect use of the needle electrodes. Compliance with biosecurity measures to avoid the contraction of diseases, as well as knowing how to adequately operate electrodes needles and the execution of any electromiographic technique, and also bearing in mind the disinfection and sterilization of electromiographic needles in compliance with established procedures should be carried out. The realization of these procedures for the operation of electrode needles, ensures the quality of service and above all prevents that the patient suffers health complications due to a bad procedure.
