NURSING ROLES IN CRANIAL HYPERTENSION
Abstract
The increase of the intracranial pressure is a complex manifestation that is produced by a multiplicity of neurological diseases, frequently appearing in acute form and requiring surgery. Intracranial antihypertensive treatment is directed towards reducing intracranial pressure, increasing average arterial pressure and therefore maintaining a suitable cerebral perfusion. Objectives - To unify criteria in nursing care of cranial hypertension. Specialized nursing personnel are fundamental in diminishing the risks to the patient. The nurse’s knowledge with respect to the symptoms and factors of risk of cranial hypertension is fundamental in the precocious detection of this clinical alteration and in the adequate following up of the patient to avoid potential complications. - To plan care directed towards solving doctor-surgical problems in cranial hypertension by means of the nurse’s interventions and the activities included in each one of them. Methodology The methodology has been based in experience, the nursing evidence and in the bibliographical revision. Making a guide of nursing care, which will be individualized in each case making sure that the patient receives the required quality nursing care for their physiological situation. Results and Conclusions The intention of nursing care is the constant monitoring of the neurological and hemodynamic state of the patient, thus to identify as rapidly as possible the variations that could indicate a deterioration of the cerebral perfusions and take the opportune measures. For that reason, it is necessary that the knowledge is up to date in nursing care of the patient with cranial hypertension in order to unify criteria that diminish the variability of nursing practices and assure the benefit of quality care.Downloads
