Nursing process toward the prevention of falls in the institutionalized elderly: action research
Abstract
The objective of this study was to propose the inclusion of elements in the Nursing Process, in the Patient Medical Record of a Long-term Care Institution for the Elderly, aiming at the prevention of falls. It is action research carried out in a Long-term Care Institution for the Elderly in Southern Brazil, in May 2010, with the nursing team of the institution. All of the twelve stages of the action research have been followed. As a result, it has been verified that the participants did not know the elderly rights, and the patients’ medical records, despite being institutionally important for the elderly and the team, were not used. Also, the need for information related to the risks of falls and the importance of the nursing process and nursing record has been taken into account. The study enabled the development of a proposal of a Nursing Process for the prevention of falls in the institutionalized elderly.Downloads
