Mebendazole in the treatment of intestinal heliminitics: a review of the literature and nursing considerations
Abstract
Mebendazole is a wide spectrum anthelminticused in the treatment of several types of enteroparasitoses; in the drug therapy area nurses play a significant role in the administration of drugs or in the new field of work for the profession - the prescription of medications by approved protocols or routines.Objectives: to perform a review of the literature on the fundamental pharmacological aspects of mebendazole and describe the more important considerations and nursing cares in the administration or prescription of mebendazole.
Methodology: national and international textbooks about general pharmacology, advanced nursing practices and nursing and medication prescription were selected and analyzed, along with Ministry of Health manuals and package inserts.
Results: the main pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic parameters, posology, side effects, contra-indications, overdose, interactions of mebendazole were described and were related to main nursing cares, orientations and considerations.
