The atttainment of feminineachievment of woman´s maturity: the climacteric´s experience in a group of women
Abstract
Aim: to consider the climacteric experiences as a holistic process in a small group of women between 45 and 55 years in a locality of Murcia.
Methodology and method: a qualitative-descriptive methodology was used. A life quality Menopause Rating Scale was administered as a support for individual semi-structured interviews. Study population: the snowball method was used for the sampling with participation by five women aged between 45 and 55 años, with natural menopause and resident in the town of Santomera.
Results: After text analysis the results were divided into 7 inter-related categories: (1) concepts regarding the process, (2) information they had available, (3) somatic and psychological changes, (4) sexuality, (5) social repercussions, (6) meanings and sensations regarding the climeractic, (7) fears and actions in self-care.
Conclusions: Women find negative, positive and neutral aspects in the menopause, the balance of which determines whether the stage will be a growth stage or a decadent stage. Nurses should remove taboos and erroneous ideas and offer education about health that foster correct self-care, where the predominant trend of medication for the period is minimized and a holistic view is adopted given that all these aspects make up the experience of life.
