There were 78 clinical histories analyzed including all the patients undergoing the implant or change of permanent cardiac pacemakers in the hemodynamic sector or surgical center of the HUAP. A number of 52 out 78 patients had undergone the implantation of a pacemaker and 26 the replacement of the generating unit. The following variables were analyzed: Gender, age, origin, and main diagnosis, city of origin, time of internment and the mode of pacemaker stimulation. Out of the 78 patients studied, 66.67% were females and 33.33% males; the average of age of the patients was 73.82 years. The most common indicator of cardiac pacemaker implant was the blockade to atrioventricular of 3rd degree, and the mode of pacemaker stimulation was the DDDR, which permits the alteration of cardiac frequency in the atria and ventricles. After the pacemaker implant a significant improvement in the quality of life of the patient and the necessity, on the part of the nurses, to emphasize the importance of changes in the daily habits in order to control risks factors and for the creation of support groups were observed.
