Abstract

The development of viticulture in the Mediterranean coastline of the Hispania Citerior between the end of the Republican period and the first centuries of the empire is a fundamental research field because of the impact that viticulture had on the economic and social evolution of the area. In the last decades, the contribution of archaeological research has allowed us to increase our knowledge of this provincial viticulture. The development is particularly noticeable on specific aspects such as the evolution of amphora typologies, epigraphy on instrumentum or the organisation of workshops. Nevertheless we still face important problems if we want to accurately describe the relationship between centers of agricultural production, rural ownership, crafts and exchanges.
