Abstract

This article examines the influence of Belgian erudite Justus Lipsius on Saavedra Fajardo’s Empresas políticas. The influence is mostly noticeable in the laconic style, in Tacitus’ quotes, in the neo-stoic ideas and in Saavedra’s transformation of some of Lipsius metaphors into images of his Maxims. Lipsius’ name is nonetheless mentioned only once, due to the fact that he was an «unauthorized» author.
