Abstract

In this work, the author presents an analysis of the writings of the French catholic theorist, defender of the alliance between the Spanish monarchy and the French monarchy, Jean Boucher, written in his years of exile in Flanders. The author shows as well that Boucher belonged to a time stratus characteristic of the old medieval theory of the king as sword at the disposal of the Church, exclusively legitimated by the church concession of his mission and directly —not indirectly— subjected to the spiritual power. In this way, the survival of this medieval understanding of the two swords until the beginning of modernity can be understood.
