Abstract

This essay, inspired by Walter Benjamin’s reflections on the spirit of German baroque drama, is centred on the two big metaphors of human life destined to produce an idea of «identity»: theatre and mirror. All of Saavedra Fajardo’s work can be catalogued as producing «concepts for the eyes». The paradox of the Baroque period resides in that the identity-producing media make it possible due to the proliferation of images it generates.
