Abstract

Through the work of Mosén Diego de Valera, the author argues that the royal adviser was a central figure, not only in the education of princes, but also in the very tasks of government, in so far as that this figure mediated on moral, political and prudential levels in the development of the prince’s subjectivity, while attempting to influence the latter’s decisions. By and large, the advice took the form of moral maxims for government, warning the prince not to become a tyrant and to act always with the salvation of his soul in mind, which in the long run also meant the salvation of his kingdom.
