POLIFONIA POLITICA MEDIEVAL: ORDEN, JUSTICIA Y GOBIERNO EN ALGUNOS TRATADOS CASTELLANOS

Abstract

This article addresses three of the most important concepts in high and late medieval political literature, order, justice and government, by examining five relevant Castilian political treatises. In particular, the author analyses the medieval order as a harmonic composition of heterogeneous orders, justice as the principal function of whoever governs and the two main forms of government, monarchic and political or republican. The author of this article argues that, beyond the question of which government each prefers, all the writers which are analysed coincide in seeking the regime that best suits the real nature of man, the one that best complements the essence and customs of the citizens of one specific republica.
