Abstract

In order to understand the political changes under the Crown of Aragon during the High Middle Ages (this article focuses on the 13th century), it is necessary to risk an interpretation based on the totality of the territories, rather than separate histories of each of the kingdoms, as has been the norm up to now. On the basis of this, a new hypothesis is proposed: the new models of power-sharing put into practice in Valencia were not so much the result of a political programme emanating from the monarchy in order to consolidate its power, as of the interests of the Catalan urban patriciate
