Abstract

This paper summarizes a research about the problems encountered by beginning teachers at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. It starts with an approach to the concept and main characteristics of beginning university teachers; after that, a literature review of the most important problems of university teachers is done. It finishes with an analysis of the specific difficulties faced by beginning teachers at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In order to identify their problems regarding teaching, research, management, relations, time, personal aspects, setting and training, The Inventory of Beginning University Teachers’ Problems is elaborated. Deans, department directors and other teaching coordinators, as well as former students of beginning teachers are interviewed, too.
