Abstract

After a brief histórical! review of the shaping of the clerk profession in Castile, this study analises the characterístics that this profession represented in the town of Ledesma, put under the authority of Beltrán de la Cueva by Enrique IV in 1462, with the rank of County. Besides many other favours, this granting included the property of the clerkships, which are by this alienated to the Crown. Some years later, they are transferred to the council in change of an annual rent in perpetuity. Because of that, the designation of the six regular clerks and that of the council one is transferred to the council, whose duties. pities and rewards are entirely and carefully moulded in 1519 throughout the fifth title of the Municipal Ordinances of Ledesma
