Abstract

After the conquer of Murcia to the Muslims, in 1267 the council of Murcia was granted the power to choose brokers by Alfonso X. The brokers acted as delegates of foreign traders to sell their exotic and high quality products, but this function was transformed as a result of the sedentary process of the traders and the consequent decline of the fairs in the XIV century. Brokers had to turn into regional traders, selling lower quality products. The role of the brokers, established by Alfonso X, was deteriorated gradually.
